Christmas Fayre on 18th December 2011
On a mild morning just as the sun was rising a loud bang from Pat Brady’s shotgun rang out across the course to signal the start of the Christmas Fayre competition. The 21 teams of four, already positioned at their appointed tee, simultaneously began their rounds. In the tradition of this competition the Captain’s team started on the 1st tee with the Lady Captain’s team starting on the 10th tee.
The competition was a ‘Stableford’ where the two best net scores counted at each hole and produced great scoring – we had five teams scoring over 90 points with the lowest score of 81 points. The prize winners are listed opposite.
After a shower and change, the competitors joined their guests for a traditional Christmas lunch in the dining room. The 116 diners were seated at 12 tables – more of this later. The Captain welcomed everyone before an excellent lunch was served and eaten with relish.
The post lunch activities included the Captain giving thanks to all those who made the day such an enjoyable success and the presentation of prizes for a number of competitions including the Christmas Fayre competition won by Malcolm Cobb’s team. You can see in the photo opposite how diligently Malcolm and Dave are in checking their score card!!!
A highlight of the lunch was the singing of the 12 Days of Christmas – the reason the diners were seated at 12 tables!! Everyone was in such great voice. Well done. We hope to have a video of the singing attached.
